Ganesha is known as the son of Shiva and Parvathi. Shiva is glorified as the epitome of intelligence. The cosmic intelligence is not complete without innocence. Shiva is intelligence personified. The story is very symbolic. Let us indulge in decoding these symbols in the story of Ganesha. We need to give credit where it is due.
It is really commendable that a simple and standalone portrait of Ganesha has survived for thousands of years. Isn’t it noteworthy that this story has not lost charm? Indications are that Ganesha was molded into shape from a raw material. Parvati used the wax of ignorance from her body, mind and her very person itself. She breathed life into this mold of ignorance. This young lad had instruction to become the impediment for intelligence. Parvati wished to confine herself into oblivion. She intended to cleanse and detox by way of renouncing and entering to silence and meditation. In short she was immersing herself into a wash-off.
Ganesh was to inhibit entry of anything strange including supreme intelligence. Parvati is the ever bubbly and chirpy indicator of living. She had an anchor to balance her excitements, contagious enthusiasm and infectious energy. This anchor is steady, stable and is called Shiva.
Here comes Shiva. Intelligence had never ever met ignorance. Therefore Shiva did not recognize the wax form at the gate. Like you and me, this wax form too had lot of possibility for reform. Some reform and reconstruction was warranted. Welcome to Shiva!
Shiva took note of the resistance in the wax formation. This wax mold could be taught a lesson. Locate the seat of ignorance in you. Identify the many types of ignorance that you store in the head. Do you want a solution for ignorance? The ignorances can bring many types of obstacles. Ganesha is an opening. Here is an opportunity for solution to come to you.
